Chef: Sota Atsumi
The circus-themed decor of restaurant Clown Bar, located next to the Cirque d’Hiver (winter circus), dates back from the Belle Epoque. The walls are decorated with colourful, hand painted clowns on ceramic tiles. The floral ceiling, art nouveau windows and an authentic bar serve the right charming atmosphere.
Clown Bar was taken over by the well known Sven Chartier and Ewen Le Moigne from restaurant Saturne which is one of my favourite Bistronomy places in Paris. Together with former Vivant Table chef Sota Atsumi they created a real no-nonsense historical bistro.
In the tiny kitchen, chef Sota impresses with delicious product driven dishes. On the menu you will find pure and honest food. Fresh, seasonal, intense and terroir is key in this authentic gastro-bistro, which serves classics with a creative twist.
Ventrèche (unsmoked, salt-cured bacon) from ‘noir de Bigorre’ pigs
Carpaccio of beef with anchovy, burrata cheese and pine nuts.
Sweetbreads, Parmesan and salad.
Pithiviers from chicken and duck foie gras.
The setting might not be the most comfortable but is very charming and the flavours were outstanding. Wines are mostly natural with a lot of choice by the glass. Another great Bistronomy place in Paris!
