Restaurant Ocean is the fine-dining restaurant from the five star resort Hotel Vila Vita Parc. Vila Vita Parc is one of the premium beach resorts in Portugal. Located on the beautiful Algarve coast in Porches, the resort features everything and more one would expect from luxury top class hotel. Breath-taking surroundings, a beautiful secluded beach, different pools, no less than six bars and ten restaurants, a wonderful spa, and different sport possibilities. On top of this wide range you will find one of the best gastronomic experiences from South Europe.

The restaurant is located at a premium location within the hotel premises and boasts the most breathtakingly views on the Atlantic Ocean from the dining room. The restaurant has a dining room that is fully orientated to the sea. The front side is one big glass wall and the frontal view on the ocean must be one of the best restaurant views in the world. We visited Ocean last year and this was for sure one of our best experiences of the year. A bit surprising that we did not see Ocean in the S.Pellegrino World’s 50 best or top 100 list as being one of our top experience of the year!

Relaxation and elegance is key at Ocean. The interior and the modern, round lights in combination with the minimalist interior decorations, and the sea blue colours, give a very special and relaxing atmosphere. Big round tables and luxurious chairs offer great space and comfort to enjoy the unique culinary ride.

Every two years, Vila Vita Parc and restaurant Ocean restaurant organise the ‘VILA VITA Fine Wines & Food Fair’, a culinary event that gathers some of the world’s best chefs, wine makers and gourmet producers. So if you want to combine gastronomy and a luxurious beach holiday this could be the best way.

Chef Hans Neuner – Austrian – is in charge of the kitchen of Ocean and transformed the restaurant in few years in to what it is today. The Chef was named Portugal’s Chef of Year in 2009 and 2012 and received already several culinary recognitions. He gained experience at the famous Adlon Hotel in Berlin, at Tristan in Spain, and at Seven Seas in Hamburg.

The Chef quickly established his own style in restaurant Ocean and he is known for his continuous search to perform even better every day. His tasting menus are the best way to explore his cuisine. You will be able to explore some of the very best local ingredients, prepared with respect for the products and the seasons. The team works with as much as possible with locally grown fruit and vegetables, locally caught fish and organic meat from the Vila Vita Parc country estate Herdade dos Grous.

We started the ‘culinary moments’ menu with a Vertice Espumante, Douro Doc.

As a first snack: crispy potato with snails, wasabi cream, caviar of snails and powder of snails.

Carabinero prawns with corn variations, juice of corn & the shells of prawn.

Tuna toro from the Algarve, tartare with spaghetti of cucumber;

Belly of tuna with cucumber mousse, oil of dill, vinegar of rice

Grilled sardines, potato cream and grilled bell peppers.

Explosion of the sea: shells from coco butter filled with seafood & shellfish.

Gazpacho – covered with ice – break it and mix it!

Trevira prawns with tagliatelle from turnip and cuttlefish, kimchi, yuzu and a sauce of apple sauce.

John dory fish was served with Iberico ham from Portugal, parsley, caviar, chives and a juice of leek.

Sea bass line caught came with a codfish sauce, mushroom, morels, green wild asparagus and smoked egg.

Atlantic sole, octopus, chickpea cream & sweet pepper.

Pluma from black pork was truly one of the best pork dishes of the year. Today served with garlic, apple, wild broccoli, radish and a mustard sauce. On the side came crisps made from pork ear with a bbq sauce.

Pre dessert: 3 times watermelon from Ribatejo with macadamia.

Guanaja 70% chocolate with cacao pulp, cherry, alfalfa, Algarve orange, carob and vanilla. This dessert was paired with an amazing white port ‘casa de St eufemia’, jose visseu carvalho, 30 years old.

Restaurant Ocean is an exceptional restaurant in the Portuguese Algarve region in Portugal. The luxury hotel accommodation, combined with Chef Hans Neuner’s refined, creative dishes and the excellent wine selection, offer an elegant and unforgettable dining experience.
