Social Eating House – London
Social Eating House London
Chef: Paul Hood, Inspired by: Jason Atherton
Inspirator Jason Atherton has been building his global restaurant empire with several interesting projects. In London he now has restaurant Pollen Street Social where it all started, Little Social, Berners Tavern, City Social, Typing room and the Social Eating house. In Asia you can already find 7 interesting culinary concepts from his group.
Paul Hood is the chef at Social Eating House and part owner. He was previously head chef at the group’s flagship ‘Pollen Street Social’ which we visited last time with great satisfaction.
Social Eating House is located in Poland Street, right on the edge of Soho London. The atmosphere at Social Eating House is much more towards a casual setting. The ground floor area has a very cozy design with white exposed brick walls, traditional whitewashed copper ceilings. The weathered leather banquet seats are complimented by key pieces of restored furniture in the dining area. The first floor bar has a similar vintage twist with antique mirrored ceilings and reclaimed wooden chairs.
Chef Paul Hood continues to develop dishes closely with Jason Atherton, creating his own diverse and contemporary bistro menu that highlights a personal style of cooking. The simple yet carefully created dishes are complimented by a relaxed and attentive service in the comfortable, humble setting. Key to the success of Social Eating House is the combination of great pure food with an informal & social atmosphere. The basement house named ‘Employees Only’ is a hidden dining space with an 8-seated table, looking over Paul Hood’s kitchen.
We kick off our evening with a delicious cocktail. The ‘Dill or no Dill’ is a mix of Tanqueray Gin with lemon juice, cucumber, elderflower syrup, smoked salt & fresh dill (9£). Great start!
Saddleback pig ‘head to toe’, celeriac, apple & honey mustard (9,5£).
Rib Eye from Herefordshire, fries, salad, pepper sauce.
Wagon wheel: toasted meringue with salted caramel, raspberry (7,5£).
We really enjoyed this English style Bistronomy restaurant. Social Eating house serves delicious bistro-styled food and was awarded by Michelin with one star. After few days of gastronomical tasting menus, the well-flavored and pure food of chef Paul Hood was the perfect experience on the right moment. Just like Pollen Street Social also Social Eating House is worth a re-visit!
